Helgesson's sister Viktoria (five years older) competed at the World level as well and finished 5th at the 2015 European Championships. Their mother is part of her coaching team. Helgesson broke her left foot in August 2013 and had surgery to remove the screws in October 2014. Coach Brian Orser is the 1984 & 1988 Olympic silver medalist.
