Coach Anna Levandi (Kondrashova) is a multiple medallist at European and World Championships, competing for the Soviet Union. Romanenkov's mother, a five-time Champion of Estonia, is part of his coaching team. Romanenkov had to withdraw from the Preliminary Round at the 2011 European Championships as the heel of his skating boot came off in the middle of his performance.
