Margalik competed internationally for Canada until 2013 and is the 2014 Canadian Junior Champion. He was born in Argentina as the son of Ukrainian immigrants and the family immigrated to Canada when he was three years old. He is the first male skater to represent Argentina in ISU Championship and the first to represent Argentina at the ISU World Championships (in 2016) and ISU Four Continents Championships (in 2015). He became the first skater from Argentina to win a medal at an ISU events (bronze at 2015 JGP Bratislava).
