Malinin is the first (and so far only) skater to have successfully performed a quadruple Axel in competition (2022 U.S. Figure Skating Classic). He is coached by his parents, who were competitive figure skaters, representing Uzbekistan. His mother Tatiana is the 1999 ISU Four Continents and Grand Prix Final Champion. His younger sister Lisa is a figure skater as well. Malinin received the ISU Skating Award "Special Achievement" in 2023 for landing the quad Axel and the ISU Skating Award 2024 in the category "Most Valuable Skater". | |||||||||||
